Back in 1995, the hot ticket all over the world was the celtic dance sensation Riverdance. Although I wasn’t fortunate enough to see the original cast featuring Michael Flatley and Jean Butler, I do admit that I nearly wore out my videotape of the performance.
If you’re looking to get “warmed up” on a cold day, I suggest you take a few minutes to watch the amazing “Fire Dance” featuring flamenco legend Maria Pages and step-dance superstar Michael Flatley. It starts slow and sultry, but by the time you’re done watching it you’ll know why the title features the word “fire”…
Woooo hoooo! Are you fired up yet? Want a little more of the original cast of Riverdance? Here’s another favorite of mine, “Thunderstorm” featuring Michael Flatley and the men in the cast.
Who knows what I’ll come up with next?

We went to an amazing thing a few years ago called Fire of Anatolia – it’s basically Turkish Riverdance and it’s frickin’ amazing. The website kinda blows, but I think there is stuff on youtube. You should check it out.
jimsmuse sez: I just took a look at some footage of this group and I agree that they’re pretty amazing….thanks for the tip (the rest of you may been seeing a clip here soon also!) I am now officially declaring International Dance Week beginning now — anyone else have a suggestion for some amazing dance footage?

lolzzzzzzzzzzzzz. at the height of this riverdance insanity, my dear dad had been knocking back a few and then hit the internet–dangerous combo.
he had ordered SECOND ROW CENTER seats to riverdance on broadway for like a zillion dollars. it was hellish but hysterical. i’m sorry. that is a show best seen from a distance. i appreciate all the hard work but it was torture to sit through at such a close proximity.
jimsmuse sez: You poor thing! I’m glad that all these years later I’ve given you the opportunity to see some of Riverdance from the knees down, which with Irish step-dancing is kind of where the important stuff happens!

what is up with my verb tenses in the previous comment? forgive me…it’s been a long day. but riverdance was a nightmare.
jimsmuse sez: I usually have trouble with my verb tenses when trying to relate an emotional moment myself…it’s sort of like a flashback, where I feel the drama all over again. Because the extenuating circumstance was sitting in the 2nd row of Riverdance, I’ll give you a pass on your grammar just this one time.

Happy New Year Carrie!!!
I still sometimes use the Riverdance soundtrack for a vigorous workout! There is nothing better (you need a REALLY good bra when tackling that!)
For your international week, a little Argentinian tango perhaps?
